2022 Google Future Leaders in STEM Scholarship Recipient Announcement
Aurora and Google wish to congratulate the 2022 Google Future Leaders in STEM Scholarship recipients.
The scholarship aims to assist Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who have a desire to work in the field/s of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Recipients of the scholarship are assisted through access to funds which help support them during their studies.
The 2022 Google Future Leaders in STEM Scholars are:
Chelsea Rowley
Chelsea is a Dharawal woman in her third year of a Bachelor of Science and will commence a Bachelor of Advanced Studies, majoring in neuroscience and mathematics at the University of Sydney. Chelsea aspires to complete post-graduate medicine and pursue a career in the field of neuroscience.
Courtney Burns
Courtney is a Gunaikurnai woman in her second year of a Bachelor of Marine Science at James Cook University. Courtney is passionate about the ocean and wants to pursue a career in marine conservation and elasmobranch (shark) research. She is currently volunteering with Professor Jodie Rummer on the Physioshark project.
Kealey Griffiths
Kealey has connections with the Yuggera people of Southeast Queensland. She completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology and recently commenced a Master of Public Health (Indigenous Health) at the University of Queensland. Kealy plans to pursue a career as an Ears, Nose, and Throat specialist and use her Auslan training to be a holistic and accessible health care professional.
On delivering the announcement, Google Security Engineer Candice Bowditch, a Larrakia, Wadjigan and Arabunna woman said:
“We are proud to be partnering with the Aurora Education Foundation to be able to continue to recognise the successes of Indigenous Australian and Torres Strait Islander STEM students.
“It is a rare and extraordinary privilege to award three young First Nations women our inaugural Google Future Leaders in STEM Scholarship. Through their courage, leadership and efforts they will have a resonating impact not only in their profession but also in their communities.”
