Aurora Alum Launches First Nations Startup Accelerator Program
Dr Kyle Turner has been awarded $400,000 to build a pre-accelerator program for First Nations entrepreneurs by LaunchVic. Kyle, a Wiradjuri man who grew up in Dubbo and now resides in Naarm, will offer free support to aspiring First Nations startup founders in Victoria through the program named Ochre.
After completing a DPhil in Population Health at Jesus College, Oxford as a Charlie Perkins Scholar in 2017, Kyle returned to Australia and commenced work as an academic at the University of Melbourne. In 2019, he started Pearlii, a for-profit social enterprise that was founded to facilitate better oral hygiene practices and support accessibility to dental care.
Off the back of this experience, Kyle began mentoring several other First Nations founders and will now expand this work through Ochre along with First Nations woman Kayla Cartledge.
