Thomas A. Scahill Scholarship
Thomas Scahill was the first member of his family to go to university, and it opened his eyes up to a much bigger world. Originally studying Dentistry in Australia, he subsequently went to the United Kingdom to further his experience. Whilst there, the opportunity arose for him to engage in further study, and he subsequently became a Fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons. On return to Australia he was invited to become involved with the Clinical school, and commenced lecturing around Australia, America and the South Pacific Islands. Tom was passionate about education as well as the opportunities it afforded, to such an extent he was able to convince his wife Elizabeth to enrol in a Bachelor Degree. He was an avid reader, and a great talker (‘but tell me a dentist who isn’t!’ his wife Elizabeth notes) as well as a firm believer that if you are going to do something, then you’d better do it well.
