Roberta Sykes Scholar to Deliver The Wentworth Lecture

Professor Greg Lehman, a descendant of the Trawulwuy people of northeast Tasmania and 2012 Roberta Sykes Scholar, will deliver The Wentworth Lecture on 17 March 2023. Professor Lehman is the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Aboriginal Leadership at the University of Tasmania and a well-known Tasmanian art historian, curator and commentator on Indigenous identity and place.

Professor Lehman completed a Masters in the History of Art and Visual Cultures at Balliol College, University of Oxford with the support of a Roberta Sykes scholarship. He went on to complete his PhD at the University of Tasmania’s academy of the Arts and explored the understanding of Aboriginal culture, history and identity through visual history.

The Wentworth Lecture is held in honour of the Honourable W C Wentworth AO and pays tribute to his contribution to Indigenous studies in Australia and important role in the establishment of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Students in 1961.

Professor’s Lehman’s lecture, entitled “Seeing the Australian Frontier: how colonial art subdued our national history”, will take place at 12 pm to 2:00 pm on 17 March 2023. Click here to read more and register to attend The Wentworth Lecture online.
