“My experience interning at The Kids Research Institute was incredibly rewarding. I had the opportunity to work with a supportive and knowledgeable team, and I learned a lot from their guidance. A standout moment was meeting Dr Helen Milroy, whose work in child and adolescent psychiatry offered valuable insight into the value of cultural understanding. I also gained a lot from working alongside Jessica Buck, whose approach to research and community inspired me greatly. Going out into the community gave me a much deeper understanding of the real-world context of health work, especially in relation to First Nations health. Building relationships with colleagues from different disciplines also broadened my perspective and helped me think more critically about how collaborative, culturally safe care is delivered. This experience has definitely strengthened my interest in pursuing work that combines health, community, and research”.
