Postgraduate Top-up Scholarships
Lowitja Institute is offering Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Top-Up scholarships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are enrolled in a higher degree by research and have passed their confirmation of candidature. The focus of the research must be related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and align with Lowitja Institute’s research agenda.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
– be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander;
– must be receipt of an Australian Government RTP stipend, or other stipend, for which the basis is to provide an allowance whilst undertaking the HDR program;
– students will be required to demonstrate that their area of research is related to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, as it aligns with Lowitja Institute’s research agenda and principles;
– students must have passed the Confirmation of Candidature milestone.
How to Apply
Applicants will be required to provide:
– Submission of a fully completed application form with required evidence.

– Confirmation that enrolled university supports the application for a top-up scholarship and the research office agrees to administer the scholarship.
– Confirmation of Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander descent. This must include the common seal and signed by the chairperson of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Land Council, or an incorporated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation, in whose area the person lives or have previously lived.

Further Information
The top-up funding can be spread over two years. It includes:
$10,000 stipend to the student; and
$10,000 travel costs for conferences and study/research related expenditure.
