takamuna Scholarship for Education Costs

The aim of this scholarship is to improve progression and completion rates for Indigenous higher education students and provides universities more flexibility to implement responses that best meet the needs of individual students by providing scholarships, counselling and tutorial assistance. 
 
This scholarships offers up to $5,000 per year for up to four years.
 
To retain this award, recipients are required to achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
– be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
– be from a low socio-economic background;
– be studying a minimum of 12.5 credit points per semester at UTAS;
– and not be in the receipt of a Centrelink Start-up Loan or Centrelink Start-up Scholarship.

Further Information

A separate scholarship has been created for one (1) student to be awarded the Takamuna Rosie Smith Law Scholarship. Rosie Smith is a well-respected Aboriginal leader and holds a law degree from UTAS. The scholarship is awarded to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander commencing their first year of a law or combined law degree.
