Aaron

My internship was at Key Assets, an Out Of Home Care (OOHC) service provider with a particular focus on foster care and young people with a disability. I found Key Assets to be a progressive company towards aboriginal culture with acknowledgements and art on the walls, aboriginal staff and a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). I developed a Cultural and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Plan to support the child’s connection to culture while in care, and support carers in maintaining this connection. This was an exciting project that included researching the problem, consultation with social workers, psychologists, cultural leaders and carers, and developing the plan itself. I also got to work on the Key Assets RAP. I was introduced to many other parts of the daily workings of Key Assets, including sitting on panels, cultural catch-up with prospective carers and motivational interviewing training which all aligns with my degree. It was a great insight into what I can expect in the future when I am qualified.
