Ashlee

I applied for an Aurora Internship to gain more experience in the legal field. I was placed with the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO). Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions I completed my internship entirely on a working from home basis. However, I was still able to see the amazing work the organisation does and be involved in interesting cases and projects all the while being in my own apartment. Using my legal skills from university and other internships/paralegal jobs, I was given the opportunity to assist in preparing research memos that answered questions highly important for possible avenues of appeal and future matters. In addition to legal research, I was also given the opportunity to prepare an educational presentation to EDO lawyers and other volunteers on a recent UK Supreme Court decision on the Paris Agreement. My internship allowed me to polish my legal research and writing skills, and also enabled me to learn from the work of others through collaborative group work and discussions with EDO lawyers. I was also able to grow my communication skills through my presentation. I am very grateful for my experience and encourage anyone who is passionate about the environment to intern with the EDO through the Aurora Internship Program. I am also extremely grateful to the JSK Fund for funding my summer internship. Without their assistance I would not have been unable to undertake my internship or enjoy this experience.
