Audrey

I was the first remote intern at Questacon: The National Science and Technology Centre as part of the Aurora Internship Program. As a plant molecular scientist, this was really exciting as Questacon do fantastic work in science communication and engagement. I was placed with the Indigenous Engagement Team, who do important work in increasing Indigenous presence in Questacon content, providing a platform for Indigenous STEM leadership and increasing Indigenous participation in Questacon programs. The primary projects I worked on included the First Languages Useful Words and Phrases project, a Science in First Languages video and a scan of the Indigenous STEM field for people, research groups and resources.
The Science in First Languages video provided an opportunity for me to develop a video about my research using Wiradjuri language. I found it really valuable to connect with language and learn Wiradjuri that I can use in the context of my research, and I definitely developed my science communication skills. I really enjoyed my time with Questacon and I’m happy to have had such a positive working from home experience.
