The Coalition of Peaks is a representative body of more than fifty Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled peak organisations and members. We came together as an act of self-determination to be formal partners with Australian governments on Closing the Gap. The Coalition of Peaks are accountable to our communities. This was the first time Peaks had an intern and because of this they were unsure of where I might fit, but after the first day we worked out a project for me to work on and then it was pedal to the metal. If you are unable to work autonomously then this is maybe not for you… but if you love to challenge yourself and have a can do attitude I can highly recommend Peaks. The best thing for me is my project was real and didn’t finish when my internship did. I am back home but working on it (remotely) as paid full-time staff member. One of the most rewarding aspects was the sheer talent of colleagues and their willingness share their skill sets with everyone. A highly rewarding experience overall.
