My supervisors Tony Duke and Jacinta Bailey gave me valuable insights into the ways in which the bookselling industry, and more broadly the Indigenous non-profit sector, functions, as I created a social media action plan for the relaunch of BLACKBOOKS. The most important thing I learned is that Tranby is one big family. I sensed this during staff meetings and recognised it when I interviewed two alumni students about the experiences completing the online Diploma of Applied Aboriginal Studies – one of the courses Tranby offers. Even though I was trapped in my bedroom (due to COVID restrictions), unable to make it into the Tranby office and explore the campus, I still felt very welcomed and a part of the Tranby family. Working from home is certainly no substitute for an in-person internship, but I still deeply appreciate the experience and enjoyed the exposure to a professional working environment. I worked predominantly on creating marketing material for Tranby and BLACKBOOKS, writing copy and designing graphics for social media. I hope this is not the end of my Tranby journey. I started out not knowing a huge amount about Tranby. I am now a full-blown advocate of the work they do.
