While at the KLC, I was fortunate to gain a much deeper understanding of the role of native title representation bodies and the processes for Aboriginal groups to claim native title. I spent time looking through files to support preparations for a compensation claim. I also undertook anthropological research considering historical and current events occur if within the Kimberley region, and potential avenues for compensation. The opportunity to partake in a fieldwork trip, in addition to office work, and another field trip to prepare for a native title trial, significantly expanded my understandings of native title law and anthropology. I also developed my understanding of genealogy work and gained experience in genealogy program, RootsMagic7. I felt very supported by the KLC staff and have a much more genuine understanding of the processes within native title law and anthropology.
