Roberta Sykes Bursary for Short Executive Courses

The Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation provides partial funding for Indigenous Australians to undertake short, executive education courses at leading overseas academic institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must: 

  • be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived;
  • provide Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent through a signed statement (including common seal) from the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Heritage Association, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Corporation or Land Council of the country of your ancestors.  If applicable, candidates are encouraged to provide a written statement from the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Heritage Association, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Corporation or Land Council of the community in which they live or have lived and/or are connected to; 
  • be accepted into an executive program at a recognised overseas academic institution; 
  • be able to demonstrate that their studies will be of benefit to their community upon their return to Australia.

Further Information

Applicants need to apply directly to the overseas academic institution first, and then to the Trust for a Bursary. Your Bursary application will only be reviewed by the Board if you are accepted into your chosen course, however you should submit your application to the Foundation while you await the outcome of your university application. You must ensure that you submit you Bursary application with substantial time for it to be reviewed (in line with the application dates above) and before the deadline dates for your course.
